Fourteen members of Brownie Scout Troop 56 met at the Christian Church March 14th and elected the following officers: Kristine Kelsey, president; Lisa Wilson, treasurer; Becky Houdyshell, reporter; Debra Rittgers, nurse; Debbie Henry and Angie Hess, clean-up helpers.

Shelley Batt, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dean Batt, Marion, has been pledged into Mu Mu chapter of Mu Phi Epsilon, international professional music sorority at Kansas State University.

Scott Heidebrecht celebrated his fifth birthday March 17 when his mother, Mrs. Leland Heidebrecht, invited several friends for lunch and dessert of birthday cake and ice cream. Those present were Chris Meierhoff, Melissa and Todd Krispense, and Scott's brother, Dale.

Six scouts from Marion were among the 130 from the Santa Fe District of the Quivera Council, who gathered at Hesston Friday evening to participate in a retreat. Scouts from Troop 102 included Jim Koslowsky, Tim Zerger, John Forsyth, Ron Wunsch, Ricky Richmond, and Danny Snelling.

Sergeant Raymond D. Martinez, son of Juan Martinez and grandson of Jacinta Moreno, formerly of Marion, has received orders and left for Vietnam where he was assigned to the First Cavalry Division.

Mr. and Mrs. Willie Helmer opened their "Dairy Palace" this week. Formerly operating under the Dairy Queen franchise, the Helmers decided they would rather be independent merchants not restricted in their freedom.

Randy Conyers, Don Bredemeier, Edward Hett, and Chris Costello have been named delegates to Boys' State which will be held May 28 through June 3 on the campus of the University of Kansas in Lawrence.

The residence of C.E. Cook was sold Tuesday at the courthouse by Sheriff June Jost to satisfy a court order. First Federal Savings and Loan Association of Newton was high bidder, offering $18,773.44 including court costs. First Federal was holder of the first mortgage, totaling with interest, $16,567.62. The second mortgage, held by Cedar Point State Bank, for $7,200 plus interest will stand as judgment against the propriety.
