Newly-elected Commissioner of Finance for the City of Marion, W.M. "Bud" Pierce, was sworn in to office Monday afternoon. He joins Mayor Lynn Christensen and Utilities Commissioner Elmer Pritz as Marion commissioners.

Valley United Methodist Church of Marion, formerly the First Methodist Church, will celebrate 100 years of service to the community on Sunday, May 4, with an all day program. The church is one of the oldest, if not the oldest, Methodist congregation in the Central Kansas area. During the past year, members of the church have spent $100,000 in a renovation and remodeling project. The native stone building has been sandblasted and the interior has been fully carpeted, redecorated and refurnished.

Mr. and Mrs. Wilbert Kreutziger received a telegram Tuesday from the Army informing them that their son, Sp/4 Wayne Kreutziger, had been wounded in action in Vietnam. He was wounded April 3 by a fragment from a booby trap that had previously been placed by members of the opposing forces. Wayne's wounds are mostly to his left leg. He has been hospitalized.

Girl Scout Troop 62, composed of 8th grade Cadette Scouts, visited the state capital of Topeka on Monday as guests of Lawrence Slocombe. Those who participated in the trip were Jeannie Widler, Cathy Newlin, Jo Marie Mueller, Karen Pankratz, Lisa Holmes, Becky Wood, Teresa Case, Debbie Heidel, Dottie Lentz, Judy Eilerts, and Debbie Link.

Seven boys have turned out for golf at Marion High School according to Dwayne Reusser. Four of the boys are returning letterman. They are Marc Hauser, Galen Helmer and Stan Kerbs, all seniors, and Lance Alexander, a junior. Other boys out are Mark Rathert, a sophomore, and James Druse and Steve Widler, both freshmen.

Kansas State University senior Glenn Shields, Lincolnville, has accepted a position with Caterpillar Tractor Company, Peoria, Illinois.
