Lester W. Kaiser of Lincolnville has been hired as manager of MarBowl Lanes in Marion. He takes the place of Wilbert Rindt who resigned recently to accept a manager's position in Wichita. Kaiser is a retired Air Force sergeant with 22 years of service.
Jan Van Buren and Wayne Conyers are this year's winners of the National Library Week poster contests for Kansas. Each is a winner in their age classification. Their posters were designed for a contest conducted at Marion High School last fall. Their entries were among 969 posters designed by Kansas students.
Joni Kroupa, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edmund Kroupa of Marion, was the winner last Thursday of the Marion County Spelling Bee, sponsored by the Marion County Superintendent of Public Instruction. Joni is a 12-year-old seventh grader at Pilsen Grade School. Her sister Sharon was the winner of the county contest the past two years.
Mr. and Mrs. Ted Lais of Marion announce the engagement of their daughter, Ruth Arlene, to Louis Lee Kaiser, son of Mr. and Mrs. Louis Kaiser of Lincolnville. No wedding date has been set.
Kathy Winter, Barry Mueller, Marc Hauser and Leslie Lunderman, all pupils at Marion High School, returned last Wednesday morning from a student tour to Washington D.C., and New York City. The group left Kansas City by train for the week-long trip over the Easter vacation.
Mrs. George Waner entertained with a party at the city park Thursday afternoon for her daughter, Mary Kay's ninth birthday. Guests were Barbara Costello, Carol Ehrlich, Donna Sherbert, Lori Harris, Patrice Ewert, Sherry Classen, Cindy Bernhardt, Paula Vinduska, Dana Henry, Rene Bingaman, Adah McGranor and Mrs. Clinton Ewert.
At the April meeting of Cub Scout Pack 102, Cubmaster Harold Ewert presented awards to the following Cubs: David Bryant, Ronald Kristek, Chris Jost, Robert Irwin, Stephen Bryant, Jim Hoch, Steven Smith, Marc Smith, and Gene Ewert.
