Dean C. Batt, Marion attorney at law, will be one of a select few Kansas lawyers who will take a "People to People" tour of Europe and the Soviet Union from May 25 through June 15. Seven judges and 15 lawyers will make the trip, along with a court reporter, a former state librarian, 11 wives and two teenage boys.

The KanzAton Club is sponsoring the current art exhibit at the city library. It features works by Dean Ensey, Alan Pigorsch, Craig Smith, Terry Soukup, Jan Van Buren, Pam Weigart, and Dick Wiebe.

Gary Melcher, all state football star, saw his light shine brightly again last week on the field of athletic competition when he led the Marion Warriors in second place in the 2A state track meet classification at Emporia. Doug Kelsey of Marion took third in the broad jump, giving the school the only other points.

The Ambassadors Sunday school class of Valley United Methodist Church successfully planned and carried out a surprise housewarming Sunday evening for Mr. and Mrs. Warren Woerz at their new home in Tanglewood. A gift was given to the Woerz family. Also, a going-away gift was given to Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Rigler, who will be moving to Muskogee, Okla.

Henry LeMoine, Lincolnville, is retiring after 41 years of barbering in Lincolnville. He spent all of his time in this business except for two trips to Europe and the Scandinavian countries.

The Marionettes chapter of the Campers and Hikers Association held its monthly meeting Saturday and Sunday at the New Strawn Area of John Redmond Reservoir. Campers included Mr. and Mrs. Junior Bredemeier, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Bredemeier and family of Florence, Mr. and Mrs. Harlow Warneke, Mr. and Mrs. Norman Plenert, Charles and Ron Druse, and Mr. and Mrs. Morris N. Ehrlich.

Rose Goentzel, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Goentzel, was "capped" at the Candy Stripers meeting held May 8 at St. Luke Hospital. Girls receiving ribbons were Rose Goentzel, 287 hours; Brenda Helmer, 270 hours; Pam Griffith, 148; and Denise Schlehuber, 111.
