A whole covey of 99'ers converged on the Marion Municipal Airport Saturday morning and in spite of high and gusty minds proceeded with their task of marking appropriate designation on the top of the large hanger. The 99'ers is an organization of lady pilots founded by the late Amelia Earhart, who gained worldwide fame as an aviator from Kansas. The 14 lady pilots came from Wichita in a variety of planes.

Hannaford Abstract Company hosted a trip to Salina Friday afternoon to tour Exline Inc., and Salina Country Club. Afterward they enjoyed a picnic at the Exline family farm. Those attending were Mr. and Mrs. Ed Good, Mr. and Mrs. R.J. Bateman, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Hoover, Mr. and Mrs. Forest Smith, Mr. and Mrs. Roger "Bud" Hannaford, Mrs. Roger W. Hannaford, and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Exline.

Richard Rittel, who is employed as an electronics engineer with the Kansas State Highway Department in Topeka, entered roses in a show sponsored by a Topeka rose club at Gage Park Sunday and walked away with top honors.

Length of service awards were presented Tuesday at the Marion County ASCS office in Marion to seven employees and committeemen, according to Ed Stenzel, executive director. Fifteen year awards were presented to Beatrice McKibbin, Warren Fike, Homer Hett, Herman Meyer, Werner Mueller and Clarence Bentz. A 10-year award went to Edna Backhus.

Blair Tharp, son of Mr. and Mrs. Max Tharp of rural Marion, enlisted June 1 in the U.S. Navy's three-year program. He will leave Marion October 16 for recruit training at San Diego.

Not only did Kevin Jirak catch the smallest fish, the largest fish, and the most fish at Monday's Cub Scout fishing derby, he caught all the fish. Kevin easily outdistanced a field of 17 Cubs and won every award.

Marion Kiwanians heard reports from Don Bredemeier and Chris Costello Monday noon on their experiences at Boys' State at the University of Kansas. Ed Hett, who was unable to be present, sent the club a letter.
