Librarian Norma Riggs is pictured removing books and mail from a new bright orange colored book drop in front of the city library. This memorial to the late Mrs. Inez Ray, for many years librarian at Marion, was made by Mr. and Mrs. E.D. Longhofer and family.
Barry W. Mueller, son of Mr. and Mrs. Norman E. Mueller, has been granted a Paul Weigel scholarship at Kansas State University College of Architecture and Design.
Mrs. Merle Smith reports that her niece, Mrs. Bob Tilton, is among the passengers of the Navy plane missing over the Andes in Chile. The plane disappeared August 4 while en route to Buenos Aires. Passengers aboard were Navy personnel and wives.
Roxie Hague was honored August 6 with a surprise trip to Wichita in celebration of her 18th birthday. Those who enjoyed the outing were Marsha Cowan, Kathy Weber, Nancy Olsen, Kathy Winter, Mary Beth Kjellin, Bev Hoch, Tammy Case, Joyce Ford, Janice Jantz, Susan Hansen and Susan Marler. The girls ate pizzas, went to the Magic Carpet Slide and attended the move, "True Grit."
Wint's 66 Service won the midget league tournament Friday night in the finals game against Lynn's Truck and tractor. Members of Wint's team are Pat Kelly, Dennis Hamm, Bob Hett, Scott Conyers, Mark Ottensmeier, Mike Ehrlich, Jerry Conyers, Steven Smith, Gary Hett and Lawrence Ford. Coaches were Bob Kelly, and Glen Conyers. Tournament winners in the Pee Wee competition were members of the Marion County Record team which defeated Case and Son Insurance. Players on that team are Tom Goentzel, Scott Miesse, Bill Hoch, Doug Webb, Mike Robinson, Danny Snelling, Jimmy Dreier, Kirk O'Hair and Jerry Hett.
Rodney Schmidt, son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Schimdt, celebrated his 7th birthday Monday afternoon with a party in the city park. Those present were Darrell Waner, Brian Allen, Gary and Bruce Williams, Gary Ehrlich, Ronnie and Terry Siebert of Parsons, Rodney's brothers Troy and Kevin and his grandmother, Irene Lucas.
