Marion City Commission passed a resolution this week asking Marion residents to trim their low hanging trees. The city has had complaints from various people that several trees along streets in Marion have low hanging branches which scrape the top of vehicles passing beneath them. The commission requests citizens trim trees themselves right away, or they will be trimmed to the curb line by city workmen.
The 1968 Marion County Fair Queen is Miss Margo Schroeder of Hillsboro. She was crowned last Thursday evening at the closing ceremonies of the fair by the 1967 Queen Miss Roxanne Zerger of Marion. Janet Reimer of Goessel was first runner-up. Marian Lawrence of Marion was named second runner-up.
Mr. and Mrs. Paul Hajek of Tampa announce the engagement of their daughter, Pauline Agnes, to Airman Leonard Michael Holub, son of Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Holub of rural Marion. No wedding date has been set.
Twenty-five golfers participated in the annual two-day Marion Country Club championship tournament. Mike Wood shot a record-breaking 13 under par, posting scores of 32, 32, 34, and 29 to take the championship. Winners of the other flights were Rosse Case, Jack Webb, Forrest Smith, and Ed Costello.
Several Marion County students are among the 128 men and 112 women who have been appointed to hold residence hall scholarship at the University of Kansas for the 1968-69 school year. They are Dan L. Conyers and Deborah Crawford of Florence; Derald E. Carlson, Burdick; David C. Jacobson, Hope; Daniel V. Steinel, John Loney, and Susan Yeagley of Marion.
Mrs. Lee Winkley of Marion received $150 in Wednesday's Marion Cash Day drawing. Lillian Krch, Lincolnville, received $15; Alvin Loveless, Lincolnville, received $5; Mrs. Irvin Williams, Marion, received $30; and Georgann Fender, Marion, missed $10.
Mr. and Mrs. James F. Smith of Marion are the parents of a daughter, Cerece Michelle, born Sept. 4 at St. Luke Hospital. The baby has a brother Nathan and two sisters Valerie and Brenda.
