The Wichita area Horseless Carriage Club of America was making a cross country trip on Sunday and made prior arrangements to stop in Marion's park for a lunch catered by Ballinger's of Augusta. People returning home from church were surprised to see 78 ancient automobiles sitting in the park. Among these vehicles were a big Packard touring car, horseless carriages from the turn of the century, the depression day Fords, and John Dillinger-style Cadillacs.

Three Marion boys and one Durham student have pledged fraternities at Kansas State University in Manhattan. Roger Hannaford will enter Beta Theta Pi; Keith Collett, Delta Sigma Phi; Bill Darrow, Tau Kappa Epsilon; and Galen Unruh, Durham, has pledged Sigma Phi Epsilon.

One of the most popular attractions in the Labor Day parade at Florence was the miniature Model T automobile driven by Ralph Linnens. The Cedar Point banker drove up and down the parade route tossing coins from the little car.

The Marion Warriors will host Moundridge Friday evening in a non-league tilt. Bill Pickering's Warriors will see Jack Loomis and Pat Robinson as co-captains. Loomis was injured in the shoulder this week, and may not be able to pass. Jim Bredemeier is also out with a broken leg. Pickering expects to use Don Bredemeier as quarterback and is looking for strong defensive play from his team.

Jack Webb was medalist and Mark Rathert was handicap winner in the recent Labor Day golf tournament at Marion Country Club. Twenty-seven golfers took part in the event. Jerry Higgins was medalist for the first flight, with Gerry Harp handicap winner; Glen Baumgardner was second flight medalist with Warren Woerz as handicap winner; and Larry Maltbie was the third flight medalist with Monty Avery as handicap winner. Kenny Heinz was fourth flight medalist.

Marion County's total population has remained relatively steady since the 1970 census, climbing 115 to 15,185 after being as low as 13,935 two years ago.
