Again this Saturday, as has been the custom for many years, the people of Marion invited all their friends, neighbors, and relatives to come and enjoy another big annual Old Settlers' Day.

Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Widler have purchased Merrill's Cleaners from Mr. and Mrs. Gail Merrill and will take over ownership and management on October 1.

The chancel choir at Valley United Methodist Church will present a "Celebration in Song" this Sunday afternoon and evening as a benefit for the organ renovation fund. Directed by Ken Forsyth, the choir will present two programs.

Marion High School FFA students really had an opportunity to ring the old school bell Friday night when Marion defeated Hillsboro 10-8. The bell was formerly housed in the belfry of the Administration Building (Old Hill School), and is now used to stimulate spirit at football games.

Brownie Troop 56 will met at the Christian Church Sept. 25. Officers are: Kristine Kelsey, president; Jane Seibel, vice president; Dawn Hoffman, secretary; Melissa Robinson, treasurer; Lorita Kraus, nurse; Lori Endres and Gina Warnica, clean-up; Shawn Dalke, reporter.

Light showers fell in the area Wednesday and stopped the milo harvest, haying and ground preparation for a couple of days. Some of the farmers are sowing wheat, others are haying and others are working with their milo.

Barry Seifert, son of Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Seifert of Marion and a student at Marion High School, has been selected to join 100 other Future Farmers of America (FFA) members from all across the United States this October to provide music and entertainment for the more than 12,000 FFA members and guests expected to attend the 45th national convention of the organization.

According to the Florence Bulletin, J.B. Noll has requested the City of Florence construct a sewer to his building at the west edge of town where he plans to open a restaurant.
