Length of Service awards were presented to Marion volunteer fireman Thursday evening at a dinner held in their honor at the Marion Municipal Auditorium. Mayor Lynn Christensen presented the awards to the following: Alva F. Thompson, 17 years; Ralph Mathews, 20 years; John Britain, 12 years; Leroy Hoffman, 17 years; W.J. Hassinger, 13 years; Junior Bredemeier, 17 years; Ralph Popp, 17 years; Bud Pierce, 16 years; and Fire Chief Hazel Meierhoff, 20 years. Not present to receive their awards were Hurshel Raleigh, 13 years, and Wilbur Razor, 10 years.

The Marion Warriors 1968 Homecoming Queen will be crowned at half-time ceremonies Friday night during the Remington game. Girls nominated are Jan Herrick, Bev Hoch, and Nancy Olsen.

Danny R. Peterson, Burdick, has been awarded the Farmland Industries scholarship at Kansas State University. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Lester Peterson, a Centre High School graduate, and is a senior in animal science expecting to graduate in January.

Births announced this week included a son, Kurt Douglas, born Oct. 9 to Mr. and Mrs. Robert Spachek of Lee's Summit, Mo., and a son, Jeffrey Scott, born Oct. 15 to Mr. and Mrs. Bill Goentzel of Wichita.

The Marion Warriors football team was picked second best Double-A squad in the state of Kansas by the Wichita Eagle. The Marion win over Herington last Friday night on the Railroader's home gridiron was a "team effort" and reflected the superior coaching the boys have received from LeRoy Dreier.

Greg Bowers of the Marion FFA Chapter, is participating this week in the National FFA Band at the 41st annual FFA convention at Kansas City. Greg, a sousaphone player is one of 10 band members from Kansas and 122 band members from 38 states.

Mike Vinduska, Albert Klenda, and Leonard Klenda enjoyed a hunting trip to Glendo, Wyo., Oct. 6 to 8. Each bagged a deer. Mike was the proud owner of a magnificent 5-point buck. The others taken were does.
