Services were held Friday afternoon for Judge Jay E. Hargett, 74, retired Probate Court Judge and attorney who died early Wednesday morning at St. Luke Hospital following an extended illness.
Bill Finke was elected president of the Marion Kiwanis Club. He will succeed Gerry Harris in January. Other officers elected included Boyce Baumgardner, first vice president, and Jack Applegate, second vice president. Those who will serve on the board of directors are Ed Colburn, Will Helmer, K.C. Wingerd, Leland Heidebrecht, Ralph Gillmore, Conrad Steinel, and B.C. Powell.
Centre Cougars annual homecoming event is Friday night. Queen candidates are DeLora Brunner and Rosalie Bentz, seniors; Karen Anderson, junior; Ruth Noone, sophomore; and Susie Klenda, freshman. The crowning will be at half-time of the Inman game.
Carla and Donna Stovall, daughters of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Stovall, invited a number of friends to a costume Halloween party Saturday evening. Cathleen Costello, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Costello of Marion, was one of 200 high school girls from Kansas attending the annual Leadership Day session Oct. 28 at the University of Kansas in Lawrence.
Roxanna Lee Zerger, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Reuben Zerger, Marion, is enrolled at Denver Women's College, Denver, Colo., as a full time student in the Fashion Division. Miss Zerger, former Marion County Fair Queen, is a graduate of Marion High School class of 1967.
