Jack Regnier, owner of Marion Auto Supply, was appointed mayor of Marion Monday afternoon at the regular meeting of the city commission. He will fill the unexpired term of Lynn Christensen who resigned.
The Marion Warriors broke a 28-game losing streak Tuesday night by defeating the Herington Railroaders 50-47 on their home court at Herington. Don Bredemeier was the "spark plug" of the Marion win by virtue of scoring 18 points. He hit seven out of 17 field goal attempts for an average of 41 percent.
A team made up of men from this area recently took top honors in the fall league of the Newton Gun Club competition. The men took first place in the first division of the shotgun shooting events. Members of the team are Loyd Savage, Charles Savage, Bernard Waner, and Gary Bartlett of Florence and Al Waner of Marion.
Ann Jirak of Tampa who had a slumber party New Year's Day evening also took the group to Abilene where they attended a show. Her guests were Diane Evans, Janis Meirowksy, Debbie Steinert, and Mary Noone.
The first major storm of the winter struck Saturday night. After a good rain, it sleeted, then snowed and everything is covered with ice. Lysle Russell, Marion County engineer, says all roads were not yet open Sunday night, but were by Monday.
The familiar sounds of large engines coming from the Rounds and Stewart natural gasoline plant northwest of Marion came to a halt last week when the plant stopped operating due to lack of oil and gas.
