The Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railroad has given notice that on October 14 it filed an application with the Interstate Commerce Commission in Washington, D.C. to abandon the branch line tracks between Florence and Marion.
Dr. T.C. Ensey was the speaker Tuesday noon at the meeting of Marion Kiwanis Club. He told about the proposed coronary care unit to be established at St. Luke Hospital. Among the items included will be a defibrillator, an electrocardiograph, a heartpacer, and a monitorscope. The unit started as a memorial to the late Dr. C.R. Magee, and as of the present time there has been about $1,200 donated to establish the unit in first class condition.
Boy Scout Troop 102 spent the weekend in Oklahoma visiting various points of interest. Boys going were Rick Schwendiman, Jay Schwendiman, Leonard Schafers, Mike Jackson, Paul Swan, Daryl Enos, Brad Turk, Doug Krause, Henry Bingaman, Roger Schmidtberger, Scott McGranor, John Higgins, Dennis Schafers, Doug Marler, Donnie Smith, and Mark Ottensmeier. Adults going were Earl Winter, Elmer Ottensmeier, Gene Enos, and Kenneth Schwendiman.
Mr. and Mrs. Warren Fike of Ramona announce the engagement of their daughter, Linda Diane, to Dan E. Peterson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lester Peterson of Burdick. A December wedding is planned.
The annual American Legion carnival held in Marion on Veterans Day was well received and reported as successful. Winners of the prizes included the following: Tom Hett, side of beef; Larry Helmer, record player; Harry Nelson, blender; Janet Varenhorst, binoculars; Lester Henderson, razor.
The junior class of Centre High School will present the play "State Fair" next Friday in the school auditorium. The cast includes Lowell Strecker, Barbara Loveless, Karen Anderson, Steve Deines, Jim Weber, Jeanette Schubert, Marcia Payton, Ed Belton, and Jess Brunner. The director is Stephen Clegg.
