Dr. Earl Wood and Roger "Bud" Hannaford again are co-chairman for the annual Marion Chamber of Commerce sponsored "Farm-City Night." Serving of the steak dinner starts at 6 p.m. with the program following at 7:30. Bill May, speaker for the Federal Land Bank of Wichita, will deliver a short message, followed by some musical entertainment arranged by Ken Forsyth.

Ed Hett, son of Mr. and Mrs. John D. Hett of rural Marion, a senior at Marion High school, has won an all-expense paid trip to Hawaii and a large trophy. He won in competition with other district winners over Kansas at the annual Farm Bureau convention in Topeka. Eddie won district competition with his vocal solo.

Three Marion County residents are members of the University of Kansas Jayhawk Marching Band. The are Larry Hampton, sophomore, son of Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Sklenar, Tampa; Rod Oelschlager, son of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Oelschlager, Marion; and Eric Meyer, sophomore, son of Mr. and Mrs. Bill Meyer of Marion. Meyer plays a Sousaphone while Oelschlager and Hampton are in the percussion section.

The fund drive to help purchase new uniforms for the Marion High School band has been a tremendous success with $2,198.28 collected to date.

Ralph Thrash, Peabody, owner and operator of Ralph's Foodline stores in Peabody and Burns, has announced plans to open a store in Marion. The store will be known as "Ralph's Foodline" and will be located in the building which formerly housed Buckley Grocery. Thrash's tentative opening date is Jan. 1.

Mrs. Ralph (Phyllis) Melton of Marion will be a VIP guest at the launching of the last Apollo moon shot missile on Dec. 6 at John F. Kennedy Space Center in Florida. Mrs. Melton was put on the invitation list by former Marion teacher, Dr. Ed Frickey, now in charge of the 4-H program at Purdue University which has an aeronautical and space sequence. Frickey was invited by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) officials and was told that he could invite six people to accompany him to the launching.
