Again this year, a repeat performance from 1967, the Marion Warriors are champions of the hard-hitting Cottonwood Valley League. Not only did the Warriors win all their league games, plus all their non-league games, but they also were selected as the top team in Kansas 2A competition.
Representatives of Marion civic organizations and the local Chamber of Commerce committee in charge of arrangements for the dedication ceremonies of Marion Dam and Reservoir next spring have decided to go ahead with plans to invite President Richard Nixon as speaker.
Specialist Four Mike Schwemmer, son of Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Schwemmer of Wichita, is recovering nicely from wounds he suffered in Vietnam a few weeks ago. He was struck by a land mine and received painful injuries to his left knee and left hand. It is expected that he will regain full use of his left hand in a few months, and that he will fully recover from the combat injuries. At the present time Mike is on R and R leave in Australia.
At the Monday evening meeting of Scout Pack 102, the following Cub Scouts received Wolf badges: Pat Loney, Jay Smith, Ronnie Kristek, David Bryant, and Layne Reusser. Other awards were: Bear badge and gold arrow, Marc Smith; artist badge, John Bauman; scientist badge, Ronald Ehrlich, Dart Henry, Tim Zerger, Jim Koslowsky, Steven Smith, Jim Hoch, and Gene Ewert; aquanaut badge, John Bauman; showman badge, Dart Henry and Tim Zerger; scholar badge, Tim Zerger.
Mr. and Mrs. Kermit C. Johnson, DesMoines, Iowa, announce the engagement of their daughter, Anita Cheryl, to Donald J. Westerhaus, son of Mr. and Mrs. Edwin G. Westerhaus, Marion.
Mr. and Mrs. Harold Conyers, Wayne and Randall took Jeff Longhofer, Chris Costello, and Terry Conyers to Kansas City Sunday where they attended the game between the Kansas City Chiefs and Boston. They were celebrating Randall's birthday.
