A class of eager students recently completed the standard Red Cross first aid course taught in Marion at the Church of Christ. The class was completed in four sessions, with Jim Bridges and Juanita Stovall as instructors. The class was made up of Boy Scouts, teachers, prospective ambulance attendants, and others.
The new Baldwin grand piano for the Marion Municipal Auditorium has arrived and will be available for Christmas programs.
The six federated clubs of Marion have named winners in the annual litterbag design contest. First division winners, age 3 through 11, are Billie Turk, Jackie Richmond, Doug Heerey, Barry Allen, Lori Hett and Beth Regier. Second division winners, age 12 through 14, are Teresa Waner, Gene Ewert, Steve Bryant, David Colburn, Rhonda O'Dell and Terri Enos.
Candy Stripers of St. Luke Hospital and Spain Guest Home met recently and elected the following new officers: Pam Richmond, president; Sharon Kerns, vice president; and Beverly Swanson, secretary-treasurer. Roxanne Edmisson, Ann Higgins, Marissa McFadden, Mary Reznicek, Yvonne Schmidt and Gwen Steiner received white ribbons for joining the organization. Yvonne Schmidt received a pink ribbon and pin for 50 hours work; Karen Regier received a blue ribbon for 100 hours; and Joyce Whiteman and Sharon Kerns each received yellow ribbons for 200 hours.
Mrs. John Roniger, Tucson, Arizona, won the sweepstakes honors at the Tucson Cake Decorator's Show and Contest held there during the past month. She also won first place in the special occasion category. Mrs. Roniger is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Bina of Marion.
The Marion Warrior "Princess" basketball team played its first game of the season Monday night at Cottonwood Falls. Cindy Friesen, Cheryl Break, Robin McFadden, Teresa Costello and Jean May started the game. Other members of the traveling squad who played in the game were Cindy Esslinger, Denise Magathan, Ginger Lentz and Mary Endres. Cindy Friesen was high scorer for the Marion team with 8 points.
