Construction is well underway at Marion's new low-rent housing complex being built at the northeast corner of town. The new 28-unit Local Housing Authority project will be known at "Hilltop Manor." Completion date has been set for early spring.

In a telephone call to the Marion County Record Tuesday evening Senator Bob Dole of Kansas reported that the long-awaited Mud Creek diversion and dike project proposed for Marion has been favorably reported out of the Public Works Committee. It is one of the final steps in the long process of getting such a proposal through Congress.

Burglars entered the home of Cleo Herman at Lost Springs some time during the day or early evening Thanksgiving and made away with rare coins valued at $5,000 and a choice selection of jewelry.

Winners last week in the free kid's drawing were Tony Bitner, Tim Vogel, Janelle Dreier, Bill Silhan, David Roberts, Lori Kelsey, Peri Ann Schwartz, Loraine Wiens and Ann Bryant.

The Native Sons and Daughters of Kansas organization is again sponsoring a contest for the best "factual pioneer" stories about Kansas pioneers or pioneering in Kansas. Mrs. Walter Beech of Wichita will give prizes for the first three stories.

The Marion Junior High Braves will open the roundball season Thursday night, hosting Council Grove. Eighth graders out for basketball include Ron Bezdek, Phillip Bishop, Jim Bredemeier, Greg Carlson, Gerald Casey, Jerry Conyers, Doug Helmer, Bob Hett, Mike Klose, Richard Meisinger, Jay Schwendiman and Ron Weber.
