Congressman Garner Shriver is photographed as he welcomes Dr. Cecil Riney, director of the Friends University Singing Quakers, Beverly Hoch and Helen Jackson of Marion, members of the symphonic choir, to Washington. The "Singing Quakers" performed at the nationally-televised Lighting of the National Christmas Tree near the White House.
Marion residents again this year will attempt to come up with a Christmas Eve decorating plan that is not only rich in tradition, but also highly attractive. They will place luminaries along their sidewalks, driveways, or entrances to their homes.

"Dear Santa — I'll bet you're really busy packing toys. My name is James and would you please bring me a racing car and a take apart car and my sister Sherry would like to have a toy car to ride in, and a talking telephone. Please bring our little brother Jeremy lots of nice toys so he wouldn't be playing with ours all the time. Thank you, James Schlehuber, Marion."
