Again this year Marion residents plan to decorate their home in a richly traditional and highly attractive manner. Luminarias will line sidewalks, driveways, and entrances to houses Christmas Eve. The custom of lighted luminarias is an old Spanish tradition of lighting the way of Santa Nino (the Holy Child) on Christmas Eve so that he can bring his blessings to the home.

Shelley Batt, a freshman at Kansas State University and the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dean Batt of Marion, will tour Europe with the KSU Concert Choir leaving Monday by chartered TWA jet. The 23-day tour will take the 58 member choir to Paris, Munich, Berlin, Vienna, Salsburg, Zagreb, Belgrade, Budapest, Prague and London as well as other places.

Mr. and Mrs. Jack Helmer of Marion announce the engagement of their daughter, Shirley Ann, to Gordon Groening, son of Mr. and Mrs. Howard Groening, also of Marion. No definite wedding date has been set.

Diann Wiens was the speaker at Marion Kiwanis Club on Monday. She showed slides and told of her experiences this year as an IFYE for six months in Japan. Members of the club presented a cash gift to Jo Kline for her "faithful and devoted service throughout the year" as their waitress.

Mrs. J.J. Harbison, Cedar Point, was the winner of the television set at the Chamber of Commerce Christmas drawing last Thursday. Other winners who were awarded frozen turkeys were Mrs. Robert Jirak, Mrs. Ed Klein, Mrs. Henry Collett, Mrs. Larry Lange, Mrs. Rose Tajchman, Mrs. Henry Vogel, Mrs. Duane Jones, Mrs. Pete Funk Jr., Mrs. John Huna and Pete Klein.

Two long time employees of Marion County will retire at the end of next week, which is also the end of the year, and the end of a total of 80 years devoted service. Miss Jewell Amick retires after 50 years and Mrs. Ellen Garrison after 30 years. Fellow employees will host a retirement party and provide refreshments at 2 p.m. Tuesday.
