Deborra J. Case, Marion High School senior and the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alex Case Jr. visited with Congressman Garner E. Shriver on the steps of the U.S. Capitol in Washington D.C., recently. Debbi was participating in the week-long "Presidential Classroom for Young Americans."

Marion High School juniors who will be attending Sunflower Girls' State and Boys' State on the University of Kansas campus in Lawrence this summer are Joe Ragole, Bill Finke, Joni Elling, Marilee McGinness, Brent Colle, and Louis Wegerer.

Births announced in this week's issue were: A son, Sean Allen, born March 9 to Mr. and Mrs. Robert Gillett of Salina and a daughter, Tami Renee, born March 22 to S/Sgt. and Mrs. James Ottensmeier of Cheyenne, Wyoming.

William H. Tucker Jr., formerly of Marion, was elected chairman of the board of Martec Corporation, Columbus, Ohio-based organization engaged in design, marketing and planning services. Tucker is the son of Mr. and Mrs. William H. Tucker, now of Newton.

James William Miesse Post 22 of the American Legion will celebrate its 52nd birthday Saturday evening, March 27, at the post home in Marion. Activities will start with a social hour followed by a potluck dinner and dance. Music at the dance will be by the Joe Gamache orchestra out of Wichita.

The Marion High School German Club will present "A German Evening" Thursday night in the high school auditorium. They will present German songs, a German band, skits, and have free refreshments. Admission also is free.
