Mother Nature played the "April Fool" trick of the year on this area Wednesday morning by dumping a heavy wet blanket of snow all over everything. There is no record of the actual amount of snow that fell on Marion, but it was not only the largest storm of the year — it was the biggest in several years.
Officers of the Marion Country Club started a stock solicitation drive the past week, selling memberships in the organization. The stock ownership campaign will last for two months. There have been 200 shares authorized with a par value of $100 per share.
Mr. and Mrs. Dean Batt and Shelley were weekend guests of Dr. and Mrs. R. William Wygle, Debbie and Janice of Batesville, Arkansas. Additional houseguests were Dr. and Mrs. Edward Frickey and family of Lafayette, Indiana.
Word has been received by friends in Marion that Ford Watson of Los Angeles, California, is attending the Worlds Fair in Japan.
Matthew Classen, president of the Marion National Bank, this week announced that the "Master Charge" credit card plan will be available locally soon.
The one-act play, "The Monkey's Paw," will be presented to the public April 7 in the high school auditorium. Members of the class include Dale Hanson, Tom Loney, Pat Heinz, Janet Hanson, and George Coe. Miss Ellen Linz is the director.
Work began Monday on the county welfare building and the county jail to repair damages done by the tornado of March 2. Jost Construction of Marion was awarded the contract on these two jobs.
