Ann Kottwitz, an eighth grader from Peabody, was first place winner last Wednesday at the Marion County Spelling Contest held in Peabody. David Bryant, Marion fifth grader, was second and his brother Steve, a seventh grader at Marion Junior High, took third in the contest.
The bridge across Clear Creek, north of Marion, on the county road that is a continuation of Cedar Street, will become "Meisner Bridge" today (Thursday) when it will be dedicated in memory of James Frederick Meisner, county engineer of Marion County for 37 years prior to his death in 1969.

Mr. and Mrs. Earl Pankratz of Marion announce the engagement of their daughter, Judith Kay, to Ensign Ronald G. Carpenter, now serving in the United States Navy with the Civil Engineer Corps. A June wedding is being planned.
A gooseneck stock and grain carrier has come to join the implement carriers manufactured by Donahue Manufacturing at Durham for the past five years. This new carrier brings big truck capacities to the farmer's pickup or tractor and will meet the need of getting around over the farming operation with sizable loads.
Navy Petty Officer Second Class Terrance E. Holub, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest F. Holub of Route 4, Marion, is now serving with attack squadron 137 at the Naval Air Station, Lemoor, Calif.
The Marion Warriors thinclad squad took first place in the Burrton Invitational track meet Friday. Two personal records were set by Jack Loomis. Others firsts went to the 880-yard relay team of Swan, Finke, Magathan and Loomis, and Doug Keazer in the pole vault.
