The "Sportsman's Friend," Harold Ensley of television fame, was a visitor to Marion Reservoir last week. The Kansas City radio and television sportsman, noted worldwide for his hunting and fishing ability, met 17 sixth grade students from Ingalls Elementary School, Wichita, at Marion for a fishing experience at Cottonwood Point. The films will air May 9 or 16 on KARD-TV, Wichita.
Memorial services were conducted Tuesday morning for Mrs. D.W. Montgomery, much respected former teacher in the Marion school system. Marion schools were dismissed Tuesday morning during the hour of the service.
Doug Francis, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jim Francis, celebrated his 12th birthday Friday by inviting some friends to spend the night with him. Those invited were Brad Heerey, Chris Jost, Craig Smith and David Rittgers. They had birthday cake and ice cream in the evening and enjoyed breakfast together the following morning.
Marion High School seniors led the list of area schools in getting State of Kansas Scholarships this spring, with eight local students so honored according to the Department of Education. Marion students include Russell Bowers, Debbi Case, Brad Case, Tom Loney, Eric Meyer, Marcia Steinel, Dick Wiebe, and Mary Robertson. Hillsboro and Goessel each had six winners.
Greg Bowers of Marion was one of 49 ROTC cadets at Kansas State University to receive awards at the annual spring review Saturday. He received a medal for military and scholastic excellence given by Scabbard and Blade, national military honor society.
H. Crainer and John Higgins tied for medalist honors at the Marion Invitational Golf Meet Monday with one over par 71 scores.
