A century has passed since the beginning of Hannaford Abstract Company in 1871. Mrs. Roger Hannaford Sr., her son and partner, Roger W. (Bud) Hannaford, and members of the staff will host an open house from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, May 21.
Dr. Ralph Melton, prominent Marion physician, has been elected to the Hertzler Research Foundation Board of Directors in recognition of his ability, past performance and service to the foundation.
Vickie Steinert, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Woody Steinert, Tampa, has been selected to represent Moffitt-Crandall Unit 372 of the American Legion Auxiliary of Tampa to the 29th annual session of Sunflower Girls State in Lawrence.
Two sisters, Lori and Cindy Harris, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gerry Harris of Marion, are champion Girl Scout cookie salesmen in Marion. Lori sold 128 boxes and Cindy sold 111.
The Cub Scouts held their monthly pack meeting Monday in Central Park. Ribbons for those who participated in the annual kite derby were presented by Outdoors Chairman Jack Taylor. Those receiving ribbons were Rodney Schmidt, Kim Kline, Rocky Kristek, Mike Richmond, Doug Webb, Kevin Wilson, Gary Naden, Bruce Winkler, Danny Naden, Jim Dreier and Bryan Taylor.
The Marion Warriors track and field team won the regional tournament held in Manhattan Friday, qualifying in eight events for the state tournament. Firsts were taken by Louis Wegerer, discus and shot put; Don Bredemeier, javelin; Doug Kelsey, long jump; and Doug Keazer, pole vault. Second place winners were Joey Ragole, pole vault; Jack Loomis, 100-yard dash; and the 88-yard relay team of Jewett, Magathan, Swan and Loomis.
