Some interesting antique school papers have been found in the process of tearing down the old Cottage Hotel. Lynn Christensen has purchased the property, and Menno Buller is in charge of the project. Some spelling and reading papers which belonged to Elba B. Grimes "age 10" and dated May 17, 1888, were found between the walls, along with newspapers from Boston and Kansas City.
In the true spirit of neighborliness and friendship that exists in a rural community, a group of thoughtful people gathered at the Don Buethe farm east of Antelope July 21 to help with the plowing. Don was confined in a Wichita hospital suffering from painful back surgery and would not be able to get his plowing done.
Dick Maggard, son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Maggard, now living in California but formerly of Marion, was scheduled to appear on the national television program "Dating Game" Wednesday at 1:30 p.m.
Chief Petty Officer Darrell Weigart of Marion recently re-enlisted in the United States Naval Reserve for six additional years. He is a chief construction mechanic assigned to Seabee unit MCB (9-52) as an instructor for construction mechanics.
Tom Hett reported to the sheriff's office that sometime between July 18 and July 27 carpeting had been removed from a farm home two miles east and one and one-fourth of Marion. Undersheriff June Jost investigated and found that carpeting had been cut loose from around the edge of the 20x8' study room. The carpeting is green.
