O.W. "Oliver" Newlon, local Duckwall's store manager, received word this week that as of Feb. 1, 1953, he will be transferred to Ellsworth to take over management of the company's store there. While this constitutes a definite advancement, the many friends of the Newlons here will regret having them leave.
The Marion Warriors "A" squad won their first victory of the basketball season Tuesday evening when they defeated Cottonwood Falls 44-35. Jerry Brose, who is alternately "hot and cold" was "hot" Tuesday night after a "cold" Friday. He had a total of 24 points for the Warriors and was high man in the game.
Mrs. Abe Mohn entertained with a buffet supper Saturday evening to honor her son Homer's birthday anniversary. Those present were Carolyn Merrill, Ann Davies, Judy Thatch, Zona Kelsey, Nila Hoopes, Johnnie Williams, Ronnie Hiebert, Mike Brodhead, Robert Ehrlich, the guest of honor, and Mr. and Mrs. Irvin Ehrlich.
Grandpa Brooker, who was for many years a familiar figure in Marion, will celebrate his 99th birthday Dec. 23. He now resides in Wichita at the home of his son, Charley Brooker. Old Settlers Days always sees him back in the old home town and last year he gave a talk during the afternoon which showed his wonderful memory of events and places. Graham Fletcher will recognize Grandpa Brooker on one of his broadcasts of the news on Dec. 23.
Mr. and Mrs. W.F. Vinduska wish to announce to their invited guests that the marriage of their daughter, Veronica Ann, to Eugene J. Konecny, which was postponed because of the storm Nov. 26, will be solemnized Dec. 27 at St. John's Nep Catholic Church, Pilsen. Reception and wedding dance at 8:00 p.m. at Starlite Ballroom, Pilsen.
