A 35-pound catfish was hooked out of the river near Marion a week or so ago on a common everyday cane pole and line by Ross Good. Even though the fish took Good for a boat ride up and down the creek, and measured over 40 inches in length, other local fishermen will not believe that it is even a close relation to "Old Fighter" of legendary fame. At that it's a lot of fish for these parts.

Second Lt. Robert H. Hein of Marion is at Camp Drum, N.Y., participating in Exercise Snow Storm as a member of the 82nd Airborne Division from Ft. Bragg, N.C. Hein is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Jake Hein of Marion.

Dr. and Mrs. Charles Magee took their three children, Joan, Jimmy, and David, on their first train ride Saturday. They drove to Newton in time to take the Santa Fe Chicagoan to Kansas City where they had dinner, went to a show, then caught the Kansas Citian back to Newton. They had dinner that evening in the diner of the train.

Mrs. Hugh Gardner asked a number of young folks in for a buffet supper Friday evening in celebration of the 14th birthday anniversary of her son, Warren. Those present included Wade Robertson, Junior Vogel, John Minear, Bill Burkholder, Dale Johnston, Mary Lou Conyers, Jan Blackwelder, Margaret McClain, Jeanie Kline, Elda Pankratz, and Mr. and Mrs. Harry James.
