Fredrick Funk of Hillsboro has been chosen as one of two Kansas youths to spend three months this fall and winter in India on the International Student Exchange program. He is 22 and a leader of the French Creek Valley 4-H Club. He will go to India in August and return in December.

The operetta "The Magic Beanstalk" was presented Thursday evening in the high school auditorium by students in the grade school. Main parts were played by Tommy Gardner, Dwight Fruechting, Gary Ford, Beverly Bredemeier, Dennis Navrat, Coy Giles, Jay Pankratz, Lucinda Hauser, and Leland Deines.

Mrs. Donald Kelsey entertained a number of girls Saturday afternoon in honor of her daughter, Donna's 12th birthday. Those present included Beverly Bredemeier, Tricia Caskey, Karon Highsmith, Sue Haizlip, Shirley Lucas, Coleen Allen, Shirley Hedrick, Patsy Slusser, Juanita Kelsey, Wanda Johnson, Clydeen Edmunds, Sharon Propp, and Marie Blankley.

Tuesday afternoon the following ladies were guests of Mrs. Allen Risinger, Peabody, for dessert and bridge: Mrs. Jim Kline, Mrs. Rosse B. Case, Mrs. Ed Costello, Mrs. Scotty Gound, Mrs. Carl Elling, Mrs. Max Jackson, Mrs. Charles Magee, Mrs. Ray Longhofer, Mrs. Wharton Hoch, and Mrs. John Brose.

Bessie Bass was named "Good Neighbor of the Week" Friday morning on the George Gow radio program and was awarded an orchid on behalf of the station. It is understood that Bessie was baking cookies at the time of the broadcast and friends speculate how many she burned. Bessie was nominated by Mrs. John Anderson of Wichita, former Marion resident, Florence Good.
