Wren school district, northwest of Marion and closed for the past year, petitioned Monday for annexation to School District No. 1 for school purposes and the petition was accepted. The Marion school board will meet Thursday to take similar action on a petition of a number of property owners in Clark school district. This action, entirely voluntary on the part of the districts involved, adds approximately 15 sections of land and over one-half million dollars in valuation to School District 1.

Mr. and Mrs. Ferd Winter announce the engagement of their daughter, Virginia Louise, to Mr. Charles Heerey Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Heerey Sr. Rickey Henry invited a number of friends to meet at the park Thursday afternoon to help him celebrate his sixth birthday anniversary. After playing in the park, the children were taken to the Henry home where Rickey's mother, Mrs. Amos Henry served refreshments. Those present were Melody Thompson, Jeral Whitlock, Bobby Good, Jim Weidenbener, Murray Blackwelder, Donnie Westerhaus, Richard Winter, Donnie Roberts, Lowell and Larry Ensey, and Wallie Slusser.

Sgt. Richard Wood, Peabody, was one of four 25th Division soldiers to receive the Silver Star, one of the nation's highest awards, for outstanding courage in battle recently in Korea during bitter fighting on Outpost Carson. Wood, a headquarters company clerk, left his desk at battalion headquarters and volunteered to make the assault on Carson. When his platoon leader was wounded, he immediately took command and continued the attack under heavy fire.

Dr. and Mrs. T.C. Ensey and family moved this week into their home, recently purchase from the George Misers at 702 Sherman Street.
