A small twister, accompanied by a downpour of rain and devastating hail in place, hit the north edge of Marion County Sunday night. No personal injury has been reported. Property damage was spotted. The storm's path varied from about a mile and one-half to two miles. Largest property damage reported was at the farm home of Jim Hensley, about two and a half miles north of Tampa.
Jerry Schwemmer asked a number of friends last Saturday afternoon for a party in celebration of his 10th birthday. His mother, Mrs. Arnold Schwemmer, served refreshments to the boys, then took them to Kaw Theatre for the matinee. Those present included Jerry and Mike Schwemmer, Stephen Seaton, Johnnie Christensen, Galen Broadstreet, Gary Grentz, Gaylord Dyck, and Gerald Kelsey.
Mrs. John Wheeler entertained Tuesday afternoon with a reception complimenting Mary Louise Heath who will be married June 17. Assisting Mrs. Wheeler in serving refreshments to the 75 guests were Mrs. Paul Williams, Mrs. C.H. Mullen, Mrs. G.J. Goodsheller, Mrs. W.H. Carpenter, Mrs. S.W. Gound, Mrs. Al Richardson, and Mrs. Max Jackson.
During the Children's Day program Sunday at the Presbyterian church, two beautiful brass vases were presented to the church in memory of the late Barney Amick, long a devoted member of the church. The vases match the brass candle holders used at the altar and will be used on special pedestals on either side of the pulpit.
Mr. and Mrs. Bob Edmunds have moved into an apartment on N. Walnut Street from Mrs. Al Richardson's apartment. Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Swanson have rented Mrs. Richardson's apartment and will occupy it when they return from summer school at Oberlin, Ohio.
Mrs. Desmond Watt and twin daughters Ann and Joan and son Jimmie returned to their home at San Luis Obispo, Calif., Saturday after a visit here with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Wheeler.
