The Youngtown community was hit by a driving wind, rain, and hail storm Wednesday evening which completely and partially destroyed many hundreds of acres of wheat and oats which were especially good this year. In many fields there is not a spear of anything standing. And again, there are varying amounts of damage. Many are trying to get the fields ready to plant milo, hoping for a crop there.

Betty Williams, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Albert (Swede) Williams of Marion, has been awarded a Fulbright Scholarship to study at the University of Amsterdam, Holland, during the 1952-53 school year. She will report to the University of Amsterdam Sept. 1 for advanced study in political science.

Mr. and Mrs. Ray Hess, Peabody, announce the marriage of their daughter, Jeraldine, to Mr. Albert Klose, Tampa. Rev. E.M. Fly, Peabody, read the double ring ceremony at the Methodist parsonage May 29 at eight o'clock.

Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Wiseman were honored with a picnic at the lake Monday evening in celebration of their first wedding anniversary. Those there included the Wisemans, Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Regier, Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Wiseman, Mr. and Mrs. Gene Heath, Mr. and Mrs. Allan Risinger, Carolyn and Kathryn, Mrs. Gerald Gearheart, Dorine Heitschmidt, Jane Foster, Jean Cleland, Mary Heath, and Lee Nelson.

Mrs. Jess Coons was hostess at a breakfast last Thursday to compliment Miss Vera Johnston, who became the bride of George Michaelis on Sunday, with a miscellaneous shower and with a layette shower for Mrs. Norman Janzen.

Miss Marjorie Collett is enjoying a two weeks vacation from nurses training at Halstead. On Sunday, Misses Clarice Collett, Anita Collett, Marjorie Collett, and Don Schmidt attended their Sunday school class picnic at Newton.

Born June 7 at the Marion Hospital were a daughter, Jeanette Lee, to Mr. and Mrs. H.L. McDaris and a son, Terry Lee, to Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Conyers.
