A large freshman class that will probably exceed 60 students enrolled Tuesday in Marion High School. The total enrollment will likely be 185-190, the highest in several years, according to Principal Erle Volkland.
A benefit ball game, in honor of Gerald Tajchman, will be played on the Marion diamond Sunday afternoon. No admission will be charged, but a free will offering will be taken. Gerald suffered a broken leg at Emporia in the American Legion Junior baseball tournament. He played on the Marion Junior Legion team.
Mr. and Mrs. G.R. Keazer have been enjoying a shipment of trout and salmon, which had been caught and sent to them by their son-in-law, Arlie Smith and son Donald of New York City.
Mr. and Mrs. Louis Stika Jr. are the parents of an eight pound baby girl born Tuesday, Sept. 26, at Marion Hospital. They have named her Rita Ann.
Don Hayen, assisted by his mother, Mrs. Fred Hayen, entertained Charles Muse, Ted Heath, and J.B. Miesse for dinner Tuesday evening. Don will return to Parsons Junior College, Charles returns to Southwestern College for his second year, and J.B. and Ted enter Kansas State, Manhattan for their first year in college.
Mr. and Mrs. Steve Winchester attended the Master Barber's annual convention of Kansas and Missouri barbers held in Kansas City Monday and Tuesday.
