Construction will start within a week or so on a new building on the hill for Wingerd's IGA store, according to word Wednesday from K.C. Wingerd, owner. The new building will be located at the corner of East Main and Freeborn and will be of the latest type modern supermarket construction with large glass and brick front, all artificial interior lighting, and a large parking lot adjoining, he said.
No definite date has yet been set for the formal opening and "open house" of the new Marion Community Hospital, which will be known as St. Luke Hospital, according to Mother Superior Ventura, who has been in charge of preparations.
Mr. and Mrs. Earl Janzen asked relatives for dinner Sunday at the city park in celebration of their little son, Steven's, first birthday.
Milford Hett, 11-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Orville Hett and a member of the Sunshine 4-H Club, presented a talk and demonstration on "How to Bake Cookies" at the regular Kiwanis meeting Tuesday.
Max Dunn has been in the Philippines for the past nine months in Army service has been visiting home folks. He left for Camp Carson where he will be discharged Sept. 11. Max is a musician and has been with an entertainment group.
The pupils of Marion L. Navrat presented a piano recital in the Marion City Auditorium. Those participating were Johnny Riffel, Sharon Jones, Larry Hartke, Marilyn Loveless, Albert Riffel, Judy Navrat, Dean Klenda, Deanna Kay Klenda, Barbara Holub, Thelma Loveless, and Sue Riffel.
Mr. and Mrs. August Hett Jr. are the parents of a baby girl born Sunday, Aug. 30, at the Marion Hospital. They have named her Anita Faye. Mr. and Mrs. Phil Stenzel and Mr. and Mrs. A.R. Hett are the grandparents.
