John E. Sloup (pronounced "slope") has been named as Marion County's new extension agent according to Frank Hagans of Kansas State College. Sloup will replace Allan Risinger who recently tendered his resignation to take a new position with the Peabody Milling Company.

Thirty-one junior high boys are trying out for spots on the Braves football squad. Eighth graders are Wade Robertson, John Shull, Roland Vogel, John Price, Don McCarty, Dale Johnson, John Minear, Mickey Seaton, Bill Meredith, Bruce Coe, Oliver Matthew, Don Thomson, Jon Thole, and Walter Smith. Those in seventh grade are Jim Christensen, Neil Hoopes, Wayne Thies, Paul Schmersey, Junior Post, Greg Henry, Eugene Waner, and Raymond Martinez. Sixth graders are Jerry Klein, Bill Good, Leroy Winters Larry Fox, Junior Wiebe, DeWayne Reid, Lane Broadstreet, Earl Winter, and Mickey Summervill.

Mrs. Harry Kline entertained Sarabel Wolf, Mary Hannaford, Charles Propp, and Bob Kline at dinner Tuesday evening.

Mrs. Albert Swehla entertained Sunday with a dinner in celebration of her little granddaughter, Susan Marler's, first birthday. Those present were Mr. and Mrs. Sherman Marler Jr. and Susan, Mr. and Mrs. Clyde French, Archie Marler, Sherman Marler Sr., Mr. and Mrs. Ted Winter and Bud, Mr. and Mrs. Sam Jewett and family, Owen McCarty, and Mr. and Mrs. Swehla and Mayme.

Friends received the announcement this week of the marriage of Mrs. Ethel Gardner Dale to Roy Hiebert Powell, Tonkawa, Okla. The wedding occurred Aug. 2 at Basin Park Hotel, Eureka Springs, Ark., Mr. and Mrs. Powell will be at home in Tonkawa where he is manager of the local theatre. Mr. Powell was formerly manager of the Kaw Theatre here.
