The new Marion community hospital, which has been officially named St. Luke Hospital, will start receiving patients on Saturday, Oct. 18, according to word received this week. The hospital will be one of the stops on the guided tour for Old Settlers' Day visitors Oct. 2, although a complete survey will not be possible due to the numerous last minute duties yet to be done.
Mr. and Mrs. Ezra Bernhardt have completed the work on their new business and opened for business today Thursday. The "Dairy Queen" franchise, a widely-known organization specializing in an ice cream cone variation, is one that requires the best and most modern type of building and equipment. It is located on Main Street just across the street from Central Park.
Barry Avery was five years old Saturday and his mother, Mrs. Monette Avery, asked a number of friends in for the afternoon. Birthday cake and ice cream were served to Larry and Lowell Ensey, Bobby Good, Bobby Hoch, Chris Hauser, Jackie and Dannie Gamache, and Barry's two grandmothers, Mrs. Earl Avery and Mrs. Earl Barrett.
Miss Lucille Gooding, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Gooding, Tampa, was united in marriage to Reuben Kerbs, son of Mr. and Mrs. Godfrey Kerbs, also of Tampa, Sept. 14 at St. John's Lutheran Church.
Several college boys observed at the first Marion High football game of the season Friday night included Gordon Wingerd, J.B. Miesse, Jerry Tuell, John Wooldridge, and Ted Heath.
Pfc. Roger Hannaford has a change of address and reports that he has been moved in the Korean theater of operations. Bud has been driving for a colonel in the 25th Division, but the colonel was transferred to a detachment training Turkish soldiers and asked that Bud be transferred with him and continue as his driver.
