One of the most severe snow storms in many years hit Marion County with unexpected fury Tuesday afternoon and evening and in its wake brought almost all activity to a halt for the time being. As of press time, there were no casualties reported as a result, but there were several near ones, and innumerable cases of hardship endured. The situation was made extra bad with many folks on the highways for the Thanksgiving holidays.

Bill Meyer, advertising manager of the Record-Review, was notified this week that he was one of the national winners in the Purina 1952 advertising contest. The award, one of the very few in the nation, is a Polaroid Land Camera. This is the new type camera that develops and prints its pictures within one minute after the picture is taken.

The first issue of a new publication, "The Smoke Signal," came out this week at Marion High School. It is being sponsored by the student council and will be printed monthly during the school year. The first issue was a 10-page edition full of news and features. Staff of the new publication included Roger Pankratz, editor; Herb Bartel, Duane Fruechting, Ronnie Hiebert, Jay Fisher, assistant editors; Michael Brodhead, features; Shirley Tiemeier and Thelma Jean Seibel, typists; C.R. Wall, sponsor.

Pfc. Marvin Wunsch, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jake Wunsch, Marion, is serving with a unit which has just received its second meritorious unit citation. Wunsch is a member of the 231st Transportation Battalion's Headquarters Company which has been cited for "remarkable technical efficiency and superior performance. Wunsch also has received the U.N. and Korean Service ribbons.
