Bids by prospective contractors were opened Saturday on the new convalescent wing which is soon to be added to St. Luke Hospital. The bids ranged from a high of $94,000 to a low of $88,000, reports Sister Mary Ferdinand, hospital superintendent. No definite award has been made, but one is expected in the near future.
Certificates were recently issued to four sophomores of Marion High School for poems published in the National High School Poetry Anthology. Those receiving the honors were Cinda Hauser, Ruth Muck, Lei Launie Lorts and Dennis Navrat. The poems were written in English class under the direction of Mrs. Ruby Reed, instructor.
Mr. and Mrs. Orlan Dean Becker of Canton, are the parents of a girl, Ladonna Ann, born Jan. 23. Ladonna received the gift layette for being the first baby to occupy the new nursery at Bethesda Hospital, Goessel. Terry Edward Smith, son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert E. Smith, Marion, received the gift layette for being the first boy in the new nursery. He also was born Jan. 23.
Miss Violet Franta of Lincolnville is the new clerk-typist and receptionist at the County Welfare office. She is taking the place of Mrs. Harry Koslowsky whose resignation is effective Feb. 1.
The Marion Parent-Teacher Association voted Monday evening to endorse the fluoridation of the Marion public water system. They also voted to conduct an intensive educational campaign to acquaint everyone with the benefits to be derived by fluoridation.
The snow that started to fall lightly Monday morning and continued during the day turned into the season's biggest blizzard by Tuesday.
