The first contribution to the Marion Kiwanis Club fund for rebuilding of the Gnadenau church came in last week, more checks and cash gifts are expected to start coming in quantity within the next few days. The first check was for $100 and was from Mr. and Mrs. James K. Smith of 1232 East 37th, Wichita. When the Smiths heard of the wonderful work the Gnadenau people did for Marion in cleaning up after the 1951 flood and now are faced with their own disaster, the Smiths wanted to contribute to the Kiwanis fund in behalf of the church.

It is thought that a spark from the welder fell into Leland's pocket and with the welding hood on he was not aware his jacket was on fire until the smell of smoke became intense. By the time he was able to get his gloves off and attempt to get his coat off, he was ablaze.
