Mrs. Frances M. Cumpton, who recently sold her store at Little River, will open a new ladies wear store in Marion Saturday. It will be in the former location of the Wingerd Grocery, previously Richardson Grocery in the Oyer and Riggs building at Third and Main.
The Beau Brummel along Marion's main stem this spring will be wearing whiskers and sporting western attire. Beards must be in evidence by April 1 and remain united May 13, the date of the big parade along the route of the Santa Fe Trail.
Mrs. Rosse Case took Neva Stenzel and Lenore Wheeler to Manhattan Wednesday where they participated in the fourth district music talent auditions sponsored by the Kansas Federation of Women's Clubs. Both girls were accompanied by Kay Navrat.
Merle Bruner was home from Camp Wolters, Texas, for a visit over the weekend with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Bruner.
Canada bid farewell last Saturday to their post office and on Monday welcomed their new rural carrier, Homer Stiller, of Marion.
"Cash Days" are coming to Marion. Local businessmen will award a total of $85 to lucky shoppers on Wednesday afternoons, starting in April. First prize each week will be $50 and perhaps more. Four other cash prizes will also be offered each week.
Mr. and Mrs. John Wheeler have issued invitations for a tea Sunday afternoon honoring their son, Mahlon's, fiancée, Miss Patricia Pendleton of Wichita and her parents, Mr. and Mrs. L.D Pendleton of Caney.
