A big party is being planned, and all honorably discharged veterans of military service from the Marion County area are invited to attend. The party probably will be held in late May or early June.
The Marion Hotel, located on Santa Fe Street, changed hands this week when it was purchased by Mr. and Mrs. Gene Boettcher The business establishment was formerly owned by Mr. and Mrs. Richard Brodhead, but had not been in operation for the past several months. The Boettchers state they plan on doing extensive remodeling, converting the structure into an all-apartment dwelling.
Mrs. P. M. Kimball entertained with a hi-fi party from 5 to 9 Friday evening honoring here daughter Deanna's 13th birthday. Guests included Karen Schroeder, Donna Newsom, Marsha McCartney, Sandra Jackson, Georgie Helmer, Faith Kelsey, Ronnie Druse, Tim Williams, Dennis Schroeder, Tom Good and Steven Greenemeyer.
The triple trio from high school comprised of Margaret McClain, Juanita Kelsey, Margie Bernhardt, Gaila Jost, Elda Pankratz, Maxine and LaVonda Hinz, Naomi Stenzel and Lou Wheeler sang at the Methodist church service Sunday morning They were accompanied by Lavina Hoffman.
Mrs. Ed Pientka celebrated her daughter Joyce's 18th birthday Tuesday by inviting friends for a birthday supper Covers were laid for Joyce, Johnsie Just, Betty Mathews and Frances and Deloris Schafers. The girls enjoyed a line party to the Kaw Theatre in the evening.
In a recent letter to the Most Rev. Mark K. Carroll, S.T.D., Bishop of Wichita, Pope Pius XII acknowledges receipt of a specially-bound copy of "The Story of Chaplain Kapaun," written by Father Arthur Tonne, pastor of Pilsen. The book was autographed by Bishop Carroll, by Mr. and Mrs. Enos Kapaun, parents of the heroic chaplain, and by Father Tonne. To these His Holiness imparted a special apostolic blessing together with his "gratitude for this volume which reveals the self-sacrificing life of Father Emil Kapaun and for the devoted sentiments accompanying it."
