Leslie R. Broadstreet, Marion photographer, was elected president of the Kansas Professional Photographers Association this past week at its annual convention in Wichita. Broadstreet also won top prize for the best photograph among the more than 220 entries. The winning picture was a study of Al Sparks, Marion hotel proprietor.

An 11-trailer caravan of Cherokee Indian gypsies stopped for three days this week at the Marion County Lake. They came from near Pocatello, Idaho, where they had spent most of the winter and were on their way to Wichita where they own considerable property, they said.

The Bown-Corby operetta, "Early Bird Catches the Worm," played Friday night to a capacity house at the high school auditorium. Lead and solo parts were ably carried by Monty Gleason as President Rooster, Anita Schlehuber as Mrs. First Lady, Johnny Hoover as Goosey Waddles the clown, Steven Collett as Dr. Quack, Jean Morse as the Egg Plant, Donald Stenzel as the Fox, and Max Jackson as the Hawk.

Word has been received from Sgt. Kerns Allen by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Allen, that he is spending a few days in Rome on leave from his duties with the American forces in East Germany. His anti-aircraft unit has just returned from maneuvers in the Baltic Sea. Kerns has been in Germany for about a year and one-half and has been able to see many interesting places in central Europe and the British Isles. He will complete his army service in three months and plans to return home and re-enter college.

The cast of the annual high school senior play, which will be given April 30, was chosen this week. The play, "One Foot in Heaven, is based on the book of the same name by Hartzell Spence. Seniors who will take part in the play are John Childs, Pat Kruse, Ronnie Post, Ginger Price, Don Kline, Donna Speer, Carol Schambron, Jean Kline, Joe Sklenar, Lois Hiebert, Marilyn Reh, Karen Brodhead, Max Hayen, Glenda Razor, Nancy Broadstreet, Jerry Griffin, Aaron Beisel and Roger Pankratz.
