Three gypsies, one man and two women, appeared at the home of Mrs. Gossen, Canada, May 6 and stole some property from the home. Mrs. Gossen lives alone. The three barged into the home and ransacked the drawers in a dresser, taking some linens and also some silver and a water pitcher.
Dr. R.C. Smith, dean of Marion County physicians, who has practiced medicine here for over 50 years, died at his home Monday afternoon. He was 80 years of age.
Bob Mehlinger, Marion High junior, was elected president of the student council at a close election. Named with Mehlinger was Jerry Richards as vice president. In addition to these two there were three other candidates on the ballot, John Williams, Kenneth Gardner and Carolyn Merrill. Supporters of all five campaigned vigorously in their behalf.
Harry Weibert, Marion, café owner and oil worker, was seriously injured Saturday evening when he fell 15 feet from an oil rig near Lehigh where he was working. He landed on his back on the rig floor, breaking two vertebrae and crushing another.
Anita Schlehuber, assisted by her mother Mrs. Art Schlehuber and Mrs. Ruby Grothe, entertained a number of friends Thursday evening after school in celebration of her birthday. Guests included Anita Flickner, third grade teacher, Rose Marie Loveless, Sharon Nelson, Mary Stevens, Jean Morse, Loretta Fulmer, Mary Jayne Meredith, Kay Amick, Evelyn Hedrick, Edith Jewett, Shirley Love, Jeannine Skibbe, Betty Jean Tipton, Helen Olsen, Ruth Lais, Jo Ellen Atherton, Lisa Vinduska, Janet Louise Grothe, Janet Whitlock and Jarel Whitlock.
