Sunday, June 6, will be a day that will long be remembered at St. John's Church in Pilsen and in all Marion County. A large wooden crucifix, carved in a Korean prison camp by his friends of many faiths, in memory of Captain Emil Kapaun, will be brought and presented to the home church of this hero priest.

Marion High School senior Marilyn Reh is valedictorian of the Class of 1954. Salutatorian is Nancy Broadstreet. Junior honor students were John Williams and Rowena Olsen; sophomore, David Montgomery and Kay Navrat; and freshman, Elda Pankratz and Warren Gardner.

Bill King, local J.C. Penney store manager, received word Thursday that he is being transferred to Lyons. Reid Crawford, Burlington, Iowa, will take over the local store.

Marine Corporal Don Fruechting arrived in San Francisco Friday. He called his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J.L. Fruechting Friday night. They are expecting him home soon.

Three bridal showers are reported this week. Those honored included Barbara Moffitt, bride-elect of James Kendall; Rose Marie Vlk, bride-elect of Bud Vinduska; Darlene Richmond, bride-elect of Charles Gutsch; and Joan Nail, bride-elect of Dean Hansen.

Mr. and Mrs. Donald King, Gary, Ronny and Wayne were among those who received invitations to the reception by the Hyde Park Company at the Lassen Hotel for the popular Hopalong Cassidy and his wife. The boys were especially thrilled to gel to shake hands with their cowboy idol.

Mrs. Robert Hoover was honored at a cradle shower Friday evening. Hostesses were Mrs. Harold Keazer, Mrs. Robert Edmunds and Mrs. Vernon Regier.

Mr. and Mrs. Joseph H. Meysing, Marion, announce the engagement of their daughter, Patricia Ann, to George Edward Waner, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Waner, Peabody. The wedding will be an event in August.

Henry Sharrai, Marion, was the winner of $135 in cash this week at Marion's Cash Day.
