With the water level in the city's river reservoir standing at the lowest point in many years, the City of Marion this week joined countless other cities in Kansas in restricting the use of water in order to conserve a dwindling supply. All non-essential use of water in the city is forbidden for the time being, with a stiff penalty provided for infringement.

The annual Businessmen's Picnic, put on by the county 4-H clubs for their town businessmen friends and their families, will be held in Central Park next Tuesday evening at 7 p.m. The menu will include fried chicken, sandwiches, sliced tomatoes, salads, pie, and iced tea.

Byron Ray Ewert and Aaron Beisel of Marion and Glenn Warner Lorei of Ramona were enlisted in the United States Navy this week, according to word from the Navy recruiting office at Emporia. They are being sent to San Diego, California, for an 11-week recruit training course.

Mrs. Claud Hedrick entertained with a wiener roast at the Waterworks Wednesday evening in honor of her daughter, Shirley May. The occasion was Shirley May's 13th birthday. The following were guests: Beverly Bredemeier, Karon Highsmith, Elvera Griffin, Dorothy Hedrick, and the guest of honor.

Misses Anita Collett, Norma Sly, and Donna Miesse left Wednesday evening for a vacation at Eureka Springs, Ark. They will stay until Monday.

Betty Sellers, outstanding Florence 4-H Club member, was one of six Kansas delegates named to the 1954 American Youth Foundation leadership training camp at Camp Miniwanca, Stony Lake, Michigan. This is the first time a Marion County 4-H'er has won such an honor. Awards were made on the basis of social, mental, physical, and religious achievements of the club member. Betty is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. August Sellers, Florence.

Kaw Theatre manager Lee Palmer, Eddie Wilson, and Don Sklenar spent the weekend at Joplin and Springfield, Mo. Lee was a guest of Mr. and Mrs. W.A. Palmer and Mr. Wilson of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. C.E. Wilson. Don was the guest of both families.
