Dr. E.K. Schroeder, dentist, was elected president of the Marion Board of Education Monday evening at the first regular meeting of the newly organized board. He takes over the office held for the past term by Sam Thole.
Law enforcement agencies and the countryside in general burst into an explosive uproar Sunday night after a woman reported a "body" found in a ditch near the highway just outside Clements. When law enforcement officials arrived to investigate the corpse they found it to be lying with the feet and legs exposed to passers-by on the highway, and the shape of the legs definitely placed the sex as that of a woman. It was only after more careful investigation that the body was found to be that of a mannequin, a store dummy, left there several days previously following an automobile accident. The mannequin had been damaged in the wreck and was left behind.
Mrs. Alva Thompson entertained with a wiener roast Friday evening in honor of the sixth birthday of her daughter, Melody. Guests present were Neva Kelsey, Carol Priebe, Carol McKibbin, Jeryl Whitlock, Barbara Helmer, Jim Weidenbener, Donnie Roberts, Rickey Henry, Eddie Atherton, Murray Blackwelder, and Dicky Maggard.
Harold Keazer was winner Sunday of the first flight at the tournament at Marion Country Club. He shot 34 and 36 for a total of 70. He was the handicap winner with a net score of 64 and also won one of the novelty prizes by having the closest tee shot to the pin on number nine. Second place in the first flight went to Bob Hoover with 36-35 (71).
Announcement is made this week that Dwight "Bull" Fruechting has signed up with freshman football forces at the University of Wichita.
The Sub Deb Club will hold its initiation Thursday evening. It will be a main street event at eight o'clock followed by a slumber party at the home of one of their sponsors, Mrs. H.L. McDaris. Mrs. Dale Jirik is the other sponsor.
