Teachers have been hired for the 1953-54 year in all of Marion County's 42 one-teacher schools, County Superintendent C.C. Rice reported this week. In the Tampa city schools, the position of elementary principal is yet to be filled. Two high school teacher vacancies still exist at Lost Springs and a coach/commerce teacher position at Durham is yet unfilled.
The Evangelical United Brethren Church in Newton was the scene of a summer wedding Aug. 9 when Virginia Venso, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Neil Venso of Newton, became the bride of Joe Soyez, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Soyez of Marion.
Members of the 1947 graduating class of Marion High School and their families held a reunion Saturday evening at the lake. Thirty of the 37 class members were in attendance. Those attending from Marion were Mr. and Mrs. Rosse Case, Mr. and Mrs. Will Helmer, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Rogers, Mr. and Mrs. Ed McGinness, Mr. and Mrs. H.L. McDaris, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Woerz, Mr. and Mrs. E.J. Ottensmeier, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Allen, and Vernon Vogel.
Mrs. Wallis Hoch returned home Sunday from a visit with her son, Lt. Col. G.W. Fey and family in Honolulu. Mrs. Hoch's daughter, Mrs. M.C. Pfautz and daughter Kimberly, New York, accompanied her on the trip. The trip over was made by air and on the return trip Mrs. Hoch came on the Matson liner, The Lurline, and Mrs. Pfautz and baby returned to Los Angeles by air.
The Tampa City softball team has won three tournaments in a row and have tied for first place in the Marion-Dickinson county softball league. All of the players on the team are Tampa High School graduates, who have been playing together for a number of years and have a very impressive record in championships. Art Mueller, the Tampa pitcher, has pitched every game this season. A lot of credit also must be given to Leo Costello, team manager.
Clara McKay received word this week that her son Jack McKay and family soon will be moving to Juneau, Alaska, where he has a position as director of the legislative council of the territory.
