Major General W.R. Wolfinbarger, one of the nation's top authorities on tactical aviation, has just recently retired after 31 years service. Gen. Wolfinbarger, known as "Curley" Wolfinbarger by many old Marion friends, was born here and in 1917 volunteered for service with the National Guard at the age of 17. He served overseas with the 35th Division. After being discharged, he entered the University of Kansas and receive a law degree in 1924. Immediately after graduation he entered service again and earned his wings at Kelly Field, Texas, in 1925. Since that time he has served in various capacities at several assignments.

Winners in the fishing contest sponsored by the Marion Athletic Association and their prizes were Wayne Johnston, most fish in one day (nine), rod and reel; Earl Winter, biggest fish (2 1/2 pounds), tackle box; and Greg Henry, most fish in the two-week period (also nine fish), flashlight.

Mr. and Mrs. Edward Good are the parents of a baby boy, Michael Wayne, born Aug. 14 at St. Luke Hospital. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Woerz are the parents of a baby girl, Rae Jean, born Aug. 18 at St. Luke.

A morning coffee and shower honoring LaVonne Slocombe, Peabody, was held Tuesday at the home of Mrs. M.W. Mason. Miss Slocombe in the fiancée of Corporal Roger Hannaford, Ft. Lewis, Wash., son of Mrs. Norma Hannaford. Their wedding has been announced for September when he will be home on leave.

Frank Noel, AP press photographer and recently released captive, reports that fellow prisoners of Father Emil Kapaun, Pilsen, have subscribed a total of $1500 in memory of their beloved chaplain who died in prison camp.

Don Larsen, a young Marion County farmer who has gone into raising and selling gladiolus bulbs, as a sideline, tells us that his field of approximately 20,000 gladioli has started in to bloom in earnest.
