A booster trip to promote Marion's coming Old Settlers' Day activities will be held Sept. 23. A good crowd of boosters is urged to take part, according to Dr. E.K. Schroeder, chairman of the Old Settlers' advertising committee. Old Settlers' Day will be Sept. 27.
The first full day of school for the 1957-58 school year was held Sept. 3 at the two high schools maintained this year by the newly consolidated Joint Rural High School District No. 11. This consolidated district has been formed to serve the high school students of the Pilsen, Ramona, Lincolnville, Lost Springs, and Burdick communities.
Dave Thomas has taken over the local State Farm Mutual Insurance Agency, formerly operated by Keith Kelsey, who has taken on an agency at Emporia.
Newest addition to the Marion High School band is the "Indian Glamour" brought in to inspire the
"Warriors," please the crowd, and add color to the performances of this talented musical group. The uniforms are new, and Bill Caselman has offered the service of his show Arabian horse "Maitai" for band parades and public performances. Drum majorettes are Patsy Slusser and Pat Longhofer and the four twirlers are Beverly Pankratz, Lucinda Hauser, Tressie Miles and Donna Jost.
Karen Schroeder celebrated her 13th birthday Saturday evening with a dance for her teenage friends at the Marion County Club. Karen was assisted by her ;mother, Mrs. Karl Schroeder. Those present included Sandra Jackson, Deanna Kimble, Georgia Helmer, Carol Klein, Ada Piland, Connie Fisher, Donna Newsom, Faith Kelsey, Deanna Klenda, Dick Morse, Mike Childs, Raymond Remmers, Dennis Schroeder, Stephen Greenemeyer, Tom Good, James Robert Meisner, Gary Hammer, Tim William, Gary King and Gary Roberts.
Larry Glover was high point reader in the summer contest at the Marion City Library for young readers. He read 58 of the approved list of books. Tied for second were John Hoover and Ruby Winkley with 38 books.
