Marion County population total fell below the 17,000 mark this year for the first time in many years. The final figures as announced by the State Board of Agriculture from assessor's figures was 16,731 up a few from the unofficial total of 16,715 announced here June 1.
Announcement was made this week of the sale of the property of Clark School District 38 at public auction to be held Oct. 16 at the school. Property to be disposed of consists of the school house, coal shed, barn, and other fixtures.
Mrs. Adolph Woerz and Caroline Hoffman of Kansas City, Mo., left for Biloxi, Miss., from Kansas City Wednesday morning to see A1/c Warren Woerz at Keesler AFB at Biloxi. A1/c Woerz, who is in the service in the Canal Zone, is a member of a baseball team that has been having much success and won the Caribbean championship. They have been to Nicaragua and to Puerto Rico for games. Their wins entitled them to participate last week in a tournament at Biloxi.
Mr. and Mrs. L.L. Hadsell left Wednesday to attend the American Bankers Association meeting in Washington, D.C. They joined a special train at Florence which will carry the bankers and their wives from Colorado and Kansas to Washington. After the convention, Mr. and Mrs. Hadsell plan on visiting Boston and several points of interest in New England.
Dianna Vinduska celebrated her 11th birthday Saturday by asking a number of friends as guests for the matinee at the Kaw Theatre. Afterwards, they went to Dianna's home where her mother, Mrs. Sylvester Vinduska, assisted by Mrs. Valadmir Urbanek, served birthday cake, ice cream, and pop. Guests included Carol Conyers, Sue Summervill, Margie Winter, Karen Shull, Lisa Vinduska, Lu Esther Wheeler, Lucinda Hauser, Joyce Remmers, Judy Svitak, and Rita and Joyce Urbanek.
Mr. and Mrs. J. Leo Brose announce the engagement of their daughter, Patricia, to James Dean, Wichita, son of Mr. and Mrs. Marion Dean, Warroad, Minn. No wedding date has been set.
