Four Marion County post offices, Aulne, Antelope, Canada, and Pilsen, are on the list to be closed. A complete examination of offices over the country has been going on for some time, and the post office inspector for this area has recommended closing these four offices.

William Ubben, 41, the father of five children and parts manager of the Marion Motors and Machinery Co., was the victim Tuesday afternoon of a tragic airplane accident when his Piper Cub crashed in flames in full view of 12,000 persons at the State Fair at Hutchinson.

Mrs. Monette Avery asked guests for a birthday party Saturday afternoon to help her son, Barry celebrate his sixth birthday. Those present included Lowell and Larry Ensey, Bobby Good, Roy Van Buren, Wally and Patty Bledsoe, Mary Louise Swan, Joan Magee, Richard Henry, and George and Max Jackson.

A wedding service, uniting in marriage LaVonne Slocombe, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Slocombe, and Roger Hannaford, son of Mrs. Norma Hannaford, at the Peabody Methodist church Sunday was marked by simplicity and dignity.

Mrs. Tommy Thompson entertained the force at the county clerk's office for coffee Saturday morning. Those who enjoyed seeing the Thompsons' newly decorated home included Francis Roberts, Mrs. Clara McKay, Mrs. Bess Jones, and Jewel Amick.

Announcement is made this week that a new auction sales association has been formed in this area. George Clark, Wayne Ward, and Orville and J.B. Miesse have joined together to conduct public sales under the name of the Flint Hills Auction Company. Ward and the Miesses are also in the process of building a new livestock sales barn, lots, pens, etc. on the east edge of Florence. When opened, they will conduct a regular livestock sale there on Thursdays.

Mrs. Vernon Weber was the honoree at a pink and blue shower Thursday evening in the city building basement. Hostesses for the party were Mrs. Chet McKibbin, Mrs. Harold McKibbin, Mrs. Francis May, and Mrs. Lonnie Smith.
